Storing Your Summer Toys

Storing Your Summer Toys

Summer toys including boats, kayaks and canoes are fun and exciting. However, finding storage space for them can be challenging.  Many homeowners associations do not allow extra vehicle storage (including boats) or RV storage in driveways or yards.  Storing canoes and kayaks in a garage is also not always practical.

Fortunately, Climate Masters offers affordable storage rates so you can store your summer toys all year round!  Our Summerville and Hanahan locations have vehicle storage / auto storage spaces that can be used for boats.  They also offer longer spots for RV storage. Our Summerville, Hanahan, and Daniel Island locations have secured air controlled storage rental space that is perfect for kayaks, canoes and accessories.

Here are a few tips on how to properly store summer toys such as kayaks and canoes in your storage unit:

Clean and Dry

The first step is to thoroughly clean your kayak, canoe, life jackets, paddles and other accessories you plan to place in your storage unit.  Be sure they are clean and free of any salt, mold, mildew and bacteria.  Make sure they are thoroughly dry before placing them inside your storage unit.

Store Indoors

Although your summer toys were meant to be used outdoors, you can extend their life by storing them indoors.  An air controlled storage unit is less likely to be affected by humidity, pests and mold. And, although storage rates for an air controlled storage unit are slightly more, it is well worth it to ensure your summer toys will be ready for you to use when weather permits.

Distribute Weight Evenly

When storing your kayak or canoe, be sure the weight is distributed evenly.  Sitting them on the ground can put pressure on the hull and cause damage over time.  Consider placing a rack or a few 2X4’s in your storage rental space for your kayaks and/or canoes.  Or, you can lean them up and secure them against the wall of your storage unit.

If you are looking for a safe and secure location for your summer toys, look no further!  Give us a call or stop by to see our air controlled storage units and vehicle storage/RV storage spaces today.
